BT to offer access to Netflix via its IPTV service.November 03, 2014UK Telco BT is to partner subscription video-on-demand service Netflix to deliver the popular service directly to TV. BT revealed the plan alongside its first half results, in which the company announced growth of 38,000 Television subscribers, bringing its subscriber base to 1.04 million; and £10 million growth in combined TV/Broadband revenues. Netflix has experienced solid growth year-on-year since its launch in the UK in 2012; growing in revenue by more than 48% between 2012 and 2013 growing from £54 million in the UK to £111 million, this means that revenue growth in the UK is twice that seen in the US however still remains significantly lower than the end of year 2013 revenue figure of £1.8 billion ($2.9 billion). The move by BT follows similar deals being struck by IPTV providers in France with Netflix, which has partnered three of the four major IPTV providers: Bouygues, SFR and Orange.Subscribers Only

Verizon launches Multimedia Home GatewayApril 08, 2014US IPTV operator Verizon has launched its Multimedia Home Gateway (MHG), the VMS1100 Verizon Media Server, and associated thin client IPC1100 STBs, under the brand name Fios Quantum TV. The VMS1100 has a 1TB HDD, 6 tuners and can support 4 thin client devices. Verizon’s marketing for Fios Quantum TV is focused on a two MHG per household option that supports the simultaneous recording of 12 channels, viewing on 10 TVs and 2TB of recording capacity. As with previous Fios STBs, it relies on MoCA home networking to connect the boxes. Similar to most MHGs deployed in North America, it does not have integrated Wi-Fi. Nor is it designed to act as a broadband residential gateway. It relies on a separate routing device to connect to the wider home network and Internet. The product is being supplied by ARRIS and was originally announced as a pre-acquisition Motorola Home deal. ARRIS is supplying content security and software, as well as hardware for the platform.
