Mr. Dennis Hahn, a senior analyst at IHS Markit, covers data center storage technologies.

Dennis Hahn, MBA is a senior analyst in IHS Markit’s Cloud and Data Center Research Practice, where he is responsible for covering data center storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, DAS, cloud storage, NVMeoF, and Software-Defined Storage (SDS). Dennis joined IHS Markit in April 2018 and has more than 25 years of broad storage industry technology experience covering storage systems design, product and project management, corporate and product strategy, and storage innovations development and market insight.

Before joining IHS Markit, Dennis led efforts at NetApp in product strategy, innovation, advanced development, and market differentiation for the E-Series product line, which went on to become a $1B business. Enhancements under his team leadership include the NetApp Data Fabric, Array Integrated Host Flash Caching, Kubernetes support, and an innovative AWS-resident Cloud Data Recovery Portal service.  

Prior to NetApp, Dennis held a range of storage technology management and development positions at companies such as Symbios Logic, Engenio and LSI. Throughout his industry tenure, he developed a deep understanding of storage technologies and worked closely with executive teams to influence feature requirements and product direction.  During this period, he created winning products such as the MetaStore SAN product, which grew to $60M in annual revenue in 4 years.

In addition, Dennis also mentored students and guided their projects in conjunction with the Center for Research in Intelligent Storage (CRIS) at the University of Minnesota.  Publications include Architecture: File System I/O Access Hints for Performance Enhancement at Block Layer, OneStore: Integrating Local and Cloud Storage with Access Hints, and ChewAnalyzer: Chunk Level Data Management across Differentiated Storage Pools.

Dennis earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree at University of Wisconsin-Platteville and his MBA degree from Wichita State University, both in the US. He holds patents in storage systems design, data caching and hybrid cloud data migration; and is certified in Agile development practices (PMI-ACP, est. ‘17) and cloud solutions architectures (AWS -SAA, est. ‘18).
