Christian Kim

Christian Kim is a senior analyst at IoT Connectivity team responsible for coverage of cellular wireless, high-performance wireless and smartphone technologies.

Prior to joining IHS Markit in early 2016, Christian was a senior analyst at Conversant IP Management Corp. – a patent licensing company in Canada. Before Conversant, Christian worked as a Program Manager at Chipworks Inc. patent division in Canada for seven years. He also worked as a product manager at Samsung Electronics Canada where he oversaw Samsung’s mobile handset supply chain in Canada.

Christian is a Chartered Professional Accountant of Canada (CPA, CMA), holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from McMaster University and earned an MBA from Richard Ivey School of Business in Canada. While at Richard Ivey School of Business, Christian co-authored a business case “Samsung Redefining a Brand” that was later selected by Harvard Business Publishing for wide distribution.

u-blox acquires Thingstream in a bid to stave off commoditization in the cellular IoT module industry

u-blox, a key cellular IoT module vendor, announced on 1 April 2020 that it had acquired Thingstream, an IoT mobile virtual network operator. With the acquisition, u-blox joins other mainstream module vendors in becoming more vertically integrated in order to reduce the threat of commoditization increasingly posed by Chinese module vendors.
