- Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro were launched online on 3 March 2020. Black Shark is a subsidiary corporation of Chinese smartphone original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Xiaomi. It is a professional, popular gaming phone company in China.
- Black Shark 3 adopts a 6.67-inch rigid active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display, which is supplied by Samsung Display.
- Black Shark 3 Pro adopts a 7.1-inch flexible AMOLED display, supplied by BOE.
Black Shark, Xiaomi’s subsidiary corporation, is popular in the China gaming phone market. The gaming phone brand just unveiled two new gaming phones: Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro. Both phones adopt 90 hertz (Hz) refresh rate AMOLEDs. 90Hz is a common choice for AMOLEDs used in 2020 models.
As gaming phone displays, both displays are tolerant of head and bottom borders, so there are no holes or notches on the displays.
Refresh rate and the flat display head aside, these two displays are completely different. The rigid AMOLED has an aspect ratio of 20:9 with full high definition (FHD) grade resolution while the flexible AMOLED has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 with wide quad high definition (WQHD) grade resolution. The rigid AMOLED adopts on-cell touch solution while the flexible AMOLED adopts add-on touch solution.
Samsung Display supplies the 6.67-inch rigid AMOLED for Black Shark 3. Before Black Shark 3, Samsung Display supplied a 6.67-inch flexible AMOLED for Xiaomi 10.
BOE supplies the 7.1-inch flexible AMOLED for Black Shark 3 Pro. This AMOLED is produced in Chengdu by B7. This is the second 2.5D flexible AMOLED produced by B7. Ahead of this product, BOE already started mass-producing AMOLEDs for Huawei P40 in January 2020, which was also a 2.5D flexible AMOLED.
