The USB-C connector approaches a tipping point in 2020.
USB-C has long promised to be the port of the future, and now that future is very near. IHS Markit forecasts that more than half of all products in the smartphone segment will ship with a USB-C port by 2020 and that more than half of all products in the computing and transportation segments will ship with at least one USB-C port by 2022. Overall USB-C port shipments will grow at a CAGR of 45% between 2018 and 2023.
The USB-C Topical provides an update on recent developments and trends within the USB-C market and tracks adoption of the connector for each of 28 products across five industry segments (Smartphone, Computing, Consumer Electronics, Transportation, and Electrical) between 2018 and 2023. It also tracks adoption of five USB-C protocols at the product level: Power Delivery, USB-C audio, Thunderbolt, HDMI Alt-Mode, and DisplayPort Alt-Mode.
The report is accompanied by an Excel database with five-year annual forecasts and a pivot tablet of the USB-C protocols.
