While Brazil and Russia were in recession in 2015 and 2016, IHS Markit found that India’s economy was chugging along, pushing the nation’s real GDP growth rates at 8% and 7.1% for those years, respectively. As a result, India moved into seventh place in 2015 after passing Italy and Brazil and kicking out Russia (which allowed Canada back into the top 10).
