Wireless charging receiver shipments almost tripled in the last year, rising from 55 million units shipped in 2014 to over 144 million in 2015.  Flagship products such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, and the Apple Watch helped drive growth and a rise in consumer awareness.  Despite further delays in the introduction of Rezence (part of the AirFuel Alliance) certified receivers, OEMs continue to invest in wireless charging technology.
Heading into 2016, the 5 W Qi and PMA certified market is already heading towards commodisation, at least with mobile phones.  As the industry changes phase from proof-of-concept towards refinement and diversification of solution types, this new receiver forecast highlights the opportunities and trends that will drive the industry over the next decade.
The sixth edition of the IHS report on the wireless power receiver market has now been published. It provides a comprehensive update on the market and assesses developments over the past 12-18 months and their impact on a detailed 10 year forecast scenario, across applications such as mobile phones, tablets, notebooks/netbooks and wearables.
