Austin, Texas (May 27,2014) Earlier today, subscribers to the new Smart Meter Intelligence Service from IHS (NYSE: IHS) gained access to the first deliverable being offered by the service.  The presentation, entitled Tradeshow Takeaways and Smart Grid Sensors, contains analyst insights on the electric utility aspects of a number of North American and European conferences, along with an update to the data of the annual IHS Smart Grid Sensors report and how sensors affect the electricity meter market.

Michael Markides, Associate Director of the Smart Utility Infrastructure research group, had this to say about one of the expositions discussed: ““This show is a goldmine for anyone needing to get down to the basics on T&D equipment, and more precisely the new technologies being released which address all smart grid investment from reliability to efficiency. Most of the new product buzz was centered on the wide array of analytics offerings, the continued importance of power transformer investment, and the increasingly positive view for the new wave of smart grid sensors.”

This presentation is the first of many deliverables that constitute the intelligence service. Others include:

  • a number of market and tradeshow briefs
  • global and regional market shares with various splits for both electricity meters and communications modules
  • installed base estimates at a country-level
  • historical, base-year, and forecast estimates for a number of product types and communications technologies
  • a semi-annual forecast update
