Qualcomm has just recently announced that Dr. Paul Jacobs will be stepping down as CEO and effective immediately, Steve Mollenkopf will be promoted from his current role as President and COO to CEO. On March 4, 2014, Paul Jacobs will then assume the role of Executive Chairman.
This marks the first time at Qualcomm that a Jacobs will not be sitting in the CEO chair. Given the success of the company to date exhibited by their stratospheric growth over the last few decades, this begs the question of whether or not Qualcomm will face similar challenges as Apple have had the last year or so with the passing of their revered leader, Steve Jobs. Will it be the end of an era for Qualcomm or will this move give them an extra gear with which to accelerate their already dominant position?
