We have now added data for digital and 3D screen totals as at H1 2013 for all territories and regions tracked by Cinema Intelligence. The data is also available by equipment manufacturer and as market share comparisons for H1 2013.
According to IHS Screen Digest data, the global d-cinema penetration to the total screen footprint now stands at 76.1 per cent to hit 100,741 screens, which marked a 12.8 per cent increase from the total of 89,343 at end 2012.
Approximately 11,000 d-screen units were converted in the six month period, of which 4,318 were 3D screens. Again Asia Pacific recorded the largest increase of net screens (2,483) converted followed by North America (1,316).
As at H1 2013, the d-cinema penetration in North America reached 89.4 per cent, still the highest among all regions. Europe has a penetration of 77.4 per cent (West Europe 81.0 per cent and C&E Europe 65.1 per cent), followed by Asia standing at 67.7 per cent (excluding e-cinema screens in India). Central and Latin American and Africa Middle East are lagging behind with 56.0 per cent and 46.1 per cent respectively.
Territories with the highest percentage growth during the past six month period in digital screens were Malaysia, Thailand, Latvia and Lithuania.
A total of 4,318 3D screens were installed in the first half of 2013, representing 34.1 per cent of the total digital screens converted. Territories with the highest number of net 3D screens installed were China, USA, Russia and Canada.
