In February 2012, South Korean telco KT announced that it was to restrict access to Samsung Smart TV applications to customers on its network, stating that its network would suffer severely if uptake of OTT content loads increased dramatically, and that Smart TV usage resulted in significant per-user consumption rises. This report discusses the implications of the growth in online video for telcos around the world and strategies they may adopt for dealing with it, as well as the regulatory ramifications which the Samsung/KT case highlights.
